For the time being you are the only to report this type of crash. The crash log you send does not incriminate any part of MuseScore code. So I wonder if there is something special about your computer.
The last MAC update you made was ok? You have any special external hardware? Any audio software running at the same time?

I'm able to reproduce this if I turn on "VoiceOver" in the Mac system settings -> Universal Access.
As a quick fix for you problem try this: go to the system settings, find "universal access" or however it's called in your language (icon with a man in a circle). Turn off VoiceOver or other accessibility options.
My guess of the cause: QT seems to have a QAccessibility class that enables programs to inherit accessibility settings from the OS, but that does not seem to happen correctly in MuseScore at the moment.

I just tried by switch Voice over on and run MuseScore in debug from Xcode. And it does not crash on startup.

In order to help the information flow, here is the answer from Glenn on the Facebook page:
* "voiceover" was already off but i turned "zoom" off and now it doesn't crash but no sound. getting closer. thanks.
* just noticed there is no "play panel" toolbar as shown in the manual.

so i turned "zoom" back on to see what would happen and now musescore doesn't crash. interesting. haven't installed and new hardware or software.
as mentioned previously, there is no 'play panel' toolbar as shown in the manual. there is a control toolbar (see attachment) that mouseover says 'enable sound while editing, midi input...) but no scrolling or playback.

To see the play panel, you have to click menu Display -> Play Panel

lasconic,
i did that and nothing pops up and if i click it again nothing disappears.
the mixer, palette and navigator pop up and disappear with menu click and function keys (except f11 and f12 which the macbook pro apparently assigned to other functions.
On Linux, I've also had this

On Linux, I've also had this problem with 0.9.5. What I've found is that the default settings in Edit > Preferences > I/O are incorrect upon installation of this version. Previous versions only had "ALSA Audio" selected (ALSA is the default audio system on my version of Linux). However, 0.9.5 had both ALSA Audio and Port Audio selected. This caused a crash in the audio system (oddly enough it was in jackd, which I did not have enabled in the I/O tab). Because of the crash, I could not bring up the Play panel, and could not play any sound through MuseScore. Disabling Port Audio fixed this problem for me. Perhaps a similar setting conflict issue exists on the OS X version?
actually i had to enable port audio. now the play panel appears and playback works.
when creating and stepping through a new score, it does seem very sluggish. have tried closing all other apps but at least it works now. maybe it will work smoother with midi input.
thanks mikefreeman!
