Creating Triplets
Hi All
I'm new to this so please bear with me. I am about to start piano lessons and have met my tutor to have a chat about what I'm looking to gain from my lessons and what I already know etc. (I used to have lessons as a kid many years ago.) To get me using my fingers again, he has given me a sheet of music with various exercises on them to practice on before my first proper lesson. However, the scores (if that's the correct terminology) are very cramped up and my eyesight isn't what it was. There are about 8 bars to each line with 2 bars for each individual exercise. I figured it would be easier to transcribe them as individual pieces so it was more spread out and more readable.
The problem I'm having is transcribing the exercise with Triplets in them. On the music sheet I have been given there are 4 triplets (made up of eigth note quavers) to each bar with the time signature set to 4/4 Common Time. But, when I try to transcribe it onto musescore I can only get 3 of the triplets to each bar with the 4th one starting on a new bar. How do I get 4 triplets to each bar? I've tried following the example but it doesn't work the way I want it to.
I hope this makes sense. My knowledge of the correct terminology isn't that great just yet so my apologies if I'm not making the best of sense. I'd appreciate some help though.

Set the value of the corresponding rest, then enter triplets.

Have you read the Handbook section to Tuplet see how to create triplets? You might also want to watch the tutorial videos on the main musescore.org page. If you use the keyboard note entry method (the most efficient, usually), you would create 4 sets of triplets as follows:
5 Ctrl+3 C C C 5 Ctrl+3 D D D 5 Ctrl+3 E E E 5 Ctrl+3 F F F
If you are still having trouble after consulting the documentation, then it would help if you could post a scan of the what you are trying to enter, and also the MSCZ file you have created showing what you have done so far.
Marc's post mentions the best way to enter triplets using the keyboard and this is generally the case. For exercises and other instances where you have several measures containing triplets all the way there is an even quicker method:
Click on the first rest in the first measure.
Press 5 followed by [Ctrl]3 to create a triplet of rests.
Press [Esc] to take the focus off them.
Click on the first rest and press [Shift] and click on the third rest to select all three.
Press the R key several times to repeat the triplets.
Go back to the first triplet rest and start entering your notes (using the keyboard) which will replace the rests.
