Copying voice 1 to voice 2 to create unison, tied notes don't copy

• Aug 4, 2017 - 07:55

Hi all,

Not sure if this is a bug or whether I'm doing something wrong.

I arrange quite a bit of choral music, generally using one stave for two voice parts unless the music is more complex and demands individual staves.

If I need to create unison parts, I do the following:

1. Select all of the section required (which would automatically be written in voice 1)
2. Copy (ctrl+c)
3. Click on voice 2 which changes the section to that voice,
4. Click on the first voice 1 note of the section (which now becomes a rest). The notes are copied back into voice 1.

This works perfectly if I don't have any tied notes. However, if there are any ties, when I click on voice 2 after highlighting a section, the tied notes don't get moved to voice 2.

For both examples, the 2nd stave is what is shown after I've changed voices, the 3rd stave is the result after copying.

Any help would be gratefully received! Thanks

as geetar suggests, you need to exchange voices, which does what you want including tied notes. Simply switching a tied note to another voice is not possible in musescore. The disadvantage of exchanging voices is that you must select complete measures for it to work properly. (try selecting a few notes in a measure and exchange voices. don't worry, you can undo it when you see the results). If you must select a few notes that you do not want in voice 3, you can move them back to voice 1 the way you have been as long as they are not tied.

For summarize: instead of these steps:

"1. Select all of the section required (which would automatically be written in voice 1)
2. Copy (ctrl+c)
3. Click on voice 2 which changes the section to that voice,
4. Click on the first voice 1 note of the section (which now becomes a rest). The notes are copied back into voice 1."

Do simply now:

1) Select all of the section required (voice1)
2) Copy (ctrl+c)
3) Edit -> Voices -> Exchange Voice1-2
4) Paste (crtl + v)
