Changes in drum entry for 2.0?

• Jan 8, 2014 - 18:56

I'm wondering if there are known / deliberate changes to drum entry for 2.0. So far, I can see the drum palette has been moved to its own toolbar at the bottom of the screen, and there is an "Edit Drumset" button on that toolbar as well. There is also a "Drumroll Editor" that looks suspiciously like the "Pianoroll Editor"; currently this seems to be a read only view.

As reported elsewhere, currently the notes on the drum palette are displayed incorrectly (heads on wrong side of stem for upstem notes), but they appear correctly in the score.

The "Edit Drumset" dialog appears basically unchanged - just some layout differences.

Actual entry by mouse or keyboard seems to be the same as 1.3 from what I can see as well. Does anyone know otherwise? What about MIDI? I know MIDI *import* is different, but I assume direct MIDI entry probably hasn't changed?

One difference I think I see:

For 1.3, if you customized a drum set and added keyboard shortcuts, then those shortcuts worked just like clicking in that the "default voice" defined for each drum would be honored. In 2.0, it seems the default voice for a drum is ignored when using keyboard shortcuts for drum note entry: drum notes are entered into the voice currently selected on the toolbar. Not sure if this change was deliberate or if it's a bug

BTW, speaking of customizing drumsets, it seems there was talk at some point about improving that interface, also of beefing up the default drumset definition and maybe providing others as alternatives. I assume its way past the time of improving the dialog, and I know there are many different standards for mapping drum sounds to notation, and actually, I think the basic mapping we provide is fine for a default. I would just propose adding more keyboard shortcuts.

I know the specifics of which drums might be most commonly needed are likely to be genre-specific, but here's my proposal for a fairly generic set:

A - hi hat pedal
B - bass drum
C - snare
D - ride
