What are the two notations in the attached picture that I've marked with arrows? Thanks in advance.

First one is open hi-hat, half-open hi-hat , or bell of ride cymbal.
Bottom one is seems an alternate version of something. (Maybe hi-hat) It can be an eighth note, marked with an arrow.
It would be clearer if you could get a wider screenshot.
In the first part of the book, the notation used here is not specified?

There's a page of specifications, but it's in Japanese. Here's a wider shot:

Can you look at the beginning of the partition? This looks like a separate percussion party. Maybe it was mentioned there.
Since open and closed hi-hats are written differently, this can be half open (or pedal open) hi-hat. (Half open hi-hat, usually indicated by the symbol "Ø" in the upper part of the hi-hats; like + and o ) And, there is no need for an open symbol for the cymbals.

Looks like the notation below the staff is trying to show an alternate rhythm to play, perhaps on the DS. It's not done very well, though.

Yes, it's a rhythm for a wood block. The song is "Another Day" by Paul McCartney.
That would make the bottom symbol a 1/4 note.
