How to combine two seperate files on one page

• Mar 5, 2014 - 02:53

I am trying to save paper and would like to print two pieces per page. Normally I would put insert a .pdf file into a text file but I can't get a complete copy of the piece from a PDF. There are lines missing from the staff and stems missing from the notes. So I am looking for other suggestions.

I saved the .mscz file as a PNG and inserted it as a picture into my text file. This worked but I still have problems with very lightly printed staff lines. Any suggestions.

Depends on how big you plan to print it. DPI is literally dots per inch., You can't know how many DPI an image is unless you know both how many dots there are and how many inches it is (although there may be a meaningless dummy value somewhere in the file properties; you can ignore that).

So if your images is roughly 2400 dots wide, it's 300 DPI if you plan to print it 8" wide. It's 600 DPI if you plan to print it 4" wide. And it's 10 DPI if you plan on printing it 240 inches wide. Just divide dots by inches, that tells you DPI.

If you save as PNG, resolution isn't great by default - only good enough for screen, not print. You can force MuseScore to save PNG files with higher resolution by starting it "-r 300". Or you can use the Snippet Creator plugin (see Plugins menu at right of this page). Another possibility if you are doing the assembly in LibreOffice/OpenOffice is to use the MuseScore Example Manage extension, which automates the whole process of generating a graphic, inserting it into your document, and even making it link back to the original score to make it easy to go back and edit later.

But saving as PDF should have worked. If something is being cut off, something is wrong. Can you post the score and the PDF?

I did an internet search and came across your website. I use Open Office and downloaded the extension but nothing happened. I was asked to write out the pathway because it was the first time I used the extension. I am not that computer savvy and probably didn't write down the right thing so it didn't work. There is also a warning up on the website about the extension.

I used "snapshot" for the PDF file and it worked today. The quality of the print is not that great - see attached file no. 14 and 18 non png.odt. The PNG printed version is better all around quality, but the lines on the staves are not all the same darkness: file no. 14 and 18 1.odt. When I copied the PDF using "select all" and "copy" the file looks like: insert PDF.odt.

Attachment Size
No 14 and 18 non png.odt 59.03 KB
No. 14 plus 18 1.odt 230.64 KB
Insert PDF.odt 10.39 KB

Did you install ImageMagick or GraphicsMagick like the instructions say you need to? What OS are you on? If you tell us, I can tell you what to enter when the dialog asks for pathnames. Ignore the warning - it just thinks if the developer hasn't made any changes recently, it might not work any more. I'm sure that's true for some extensions, but mine still works just fine with the latest version of LibreOffice.

Not sure what "snapshoit" is, but the correct way to make PDF's form MuseScore is just to go to Fiale / Save As and select PDF as the file type.

Either ImagicMagick or GraphicsMagick will work; you just have to follow the correct set of isntructions depending on which one you install. I have no idea if a Windows 8 version will work on Windows 7, but I'd be more inclined to try something that specifically says it is for Windows 7 or an older version (Vista, XP, etc).

Unfortunately, there is no easy way for me to make installation easier, and I recognize that's a problem. Perhaps you can find someone more computer-savvy to help? It definitely would be easier for someone looking over your should than for me to try to help remotely.
