Trying to add a pick-up measure in the middle of the piece
I am arranging a piece of vocal music from the early 1500's. It has a ground that is sung by 2 voices. The third sings with the ground intially and then goes on to sing verses on top of the ground. The verses need a pickup bar but I want to keep the integrity of the intial three part harmony. I don't want to keep repeating the ground during the verses. I would like the page to only have 5 staves on it: the three part harmony, then one line (verse 1) and a second line (verse 2). I have attached the piece. It would help if I could add an end repeat to the first two lines.
Thanks.

I do not think it is useful use: Staff Proprierties / Invisible.
Try to look at whether it may be appropriate to your purpose:

I made some changes (as I tried to explain previously), see if they are compatible with your idea.
My attempt at notation only, not perfect for playback.
If you go to menu item: Style / Edit General Style / Score and uncheck 'Hide empty staves', you will see the hidden parts.
For the end repeat on the first two lines, I added some 'bold' staff text (i.e. a colon) and dragged into position, next to the end bar.
For the pickup bar in the third voice, I just dragged a bar line from the palette onto the last note of the staff.
Since you mentioned 2 verses, I copied the first verse to fill 5 staves on the page.
Regards.

I was counting on the help of someone more capable ;-)

one thing you can do, using Measure properties in the contextual menu you find through the other click

...affects all three parts of measure #8, so parts 1 & 2 will lose one beat upon the repeat.
Part 3 will therefore not be in sync.
The pickup note of part 3 should be part of measure #8.
Voices 1 & 2 repeat, singing 'Ah', as voice 3 continues singing the 'la' of the word 'lady' (not the word 'My'). Please play the expanded attachment to see what I mean.
If the next verse (not shown) has a pickup, it should be added to measure #16.
Granted, fully writing out all the parts would be safest, but hey, it's 15th century ;-)
Regards.

I have abandoned the use of a pickup measure and wrote out 'voice 3' all the way through the piece. I have managed to fit it all on one page although it seems to be too wide for A4. (I'm working on it.) I used Edit General Style > System> fix measure width to help everything line up.

This is what I am looking for. The only problem is the barline at the end of voice 3 but I guess I will have to live with that. Thanks.

yes, you have to

If you mean having to live with the double barline (end barline) of voice 3, measure #8, in my earlier attachment: you can double click it then use the up arrow to shrink it to the top line of the staff, essentially hiding it. Then place a line from the lines palette to finish the measure.
See this new attachment:
(Where I have already put the barline there, however there's a glitch, so simply click the end barline of voice 3 of the first system. Then press the up arrow 4 times... for some reason the double barline reappears upon reloading the score, even though the single barline remains.)
Also: I abandoned the pickup measure and added the additional ground to the third voice, so there are now 7 lines instead of 5. It's almost identical to your 'Cornish - Ah_Robin,_Gentle_Robin complete.mscz' attachment - except it shows repeats for voices 1 &2.
By the way: when I open your score, measures #25-26 are not correctly separated by the barline.
Regards.

I did notice the problem with measures 25-26. I had to untick the equal measure command in edit general style. I am going to get my little group of singers to vet the arrangement and will try and incorporate any suggestions they have.
You have all been very helpful. I learn so much the more I use the program. I am trying to find other pieces like this one. I already have "Sumer is icomin in" - any suggestions?

I went through cpdl.org yesterday and came across the Fayrfax manuscript. I haven't tracked down a digital copy yet. I will look through imslp.org too. Thanks.
