Importing MIDI to ProTools
Hi! I'm a college student, and I'm taking a class in film scoring. I want to work in ProTools so that I can work directly with the video and I can edit the MIDI sounds, but when I import the MIDI files, they don't play. There's no input/output options available. I sent the MIDI file to my friend, and he was able to upload them to Logic, and it sounds great, so what am I missing in ProTools?
Thanks!

Also, I have ProTools 10.

Unfortunately, it sounds more like a question for Pro Tools support.
Nina,
Pro Tools is audio editing software.
You can't mix MIDI without rendering it as audio first - presumably there will be an on board soft synth or VST instrument to do that.
But as lasconic says - this is really one for Pro Tools support.
I *might* be able to help if this is still an issue for anyone.
I was just doing some research on how to import sheet music (not in .mid format) into ProTools and found this.
I'm running Pro Tools 12. It sounds similar to what happens when you record with a MIDI controller. That is, the .mid file is importing as an Instrument Track. These do have an I/O option, but not plugin options (which you may have been confusing as I/O). To fix this, create a new track, make it an AUX track, go to the plugin area of that track and add an instrument.
Now, go to the I/O of the imported .mid track, and the instrument should now be an option as an output.
When you play it should just work.
If you can't access I/O or plugins for either track, go to the top-left of the track to see a menu icon. Click it and make sure I/O and one of the Plugin options are ticked.
