I still don't get it.
I interpret "Hold down mouse" as meaning to click in the box - the options disappear.
If I just place the cursor there, the options appear.
What I want to achieve is a number in the top right corner representing its number in the book.
I go to Header in General style. I place the number in the top right corner.
I go to Text style. There I put a box around the number and am able to manipulate the position so that it is the right size and in the right place.
Terrific.
However, I cannot understand how to have that number appear ONLY on the first page.
Help???

In the previous conversation (link above) it is said: 'it is not possible'
Then try a workaround:
Click on the first note (or rest) -> Ctrl + T to add the text;
Click on text-> From Inspector choose the type of text;
Drag in position.
It might work?

Thanks. I know that, but somehow in the past I was able to achieve what I am asking for using the header. I just cannot remember how.
Also, how would you put a box around it?

Right-click in the title frame;
Add-> Insert Horizontal Frame (use the handle to resize);
Right-click in the horizontal frame> Add Text

Okay, using Soichi's last recommendation and fiddling with the various text values, I finall got it to work!!
As to Using $P, should there be a space between them?
Does that instruction come before or after the text?

I would say no judging by the default settings
