Finding the cause of scores filled with 0's
I would suggest that we set up an issue where anyone who uploads a file either filled with 0's or has the zip header followed by zeros can be directed. I would suggest it be set up something like this:
You have been directed here because you have a score that has been damaged and cannot be opened. Please answer the following questions to help the developers determine the cause of this problem so it will not happen to you or anyone else in the future.
Please do not change any of the settings in the boxes that will appear above your response. Please answer the following questions as completely as possible.
- What Operating system do you use?
- What version of MuseScore was this file created under?
- What version of MuseScore did you last edit it with?
- What is the origin of the file? The answer could be
* I created it from scratch
* I imported it from a ______ (fill in the blank) file
* I downloaded it from MuseScore.com
* Other (please specify)
5. Do you have auto save turned on?
6. Do you save files yourself during your editing session?
7. Do you use Save as to create different versions of the file?
8. Did you experience a crash of MuseScore that led to your score being damaged?
9. Were you able to locate a backup of the score?
10. Do you have any other information you might think will help find the cause of the problem?
11. May we contact you by e-mail if we have further questions?
The current method for diagnosing this problem is not systematic at all. Since the cause is unknown, we need to do a systematic diagnosis of what we can know. Perhaps this will enable someone to damage a file on demand and lead to a permanent fix.

That's what I created #271185: Scores corrupted beyond repair, containing nothing but zeros for

That is part of the unorganized attempt to figure out the problem. This is nothing personal against you. You actually created a bug report for something we have known for a very long time is a problem that MUST be fixed. People can't randomly lose scores. But of course you know that. I think a survey similar to the above will enable someone to zero in on the problem. Currently someone will ask one or two questions, but the person who lost the file really want's it back or needs to quickly recreate it as best as possible. Most people don't view the forums every day like we do.
If user answers are the only responses it will be easier to navigate the information gathered and come up with theories that can be tested.

We need one central spot to collect information about this problem, and that issue is supposed to be just that.
I don't think this website has the infrastructure in place for a form as you describe..
Something like that ? https://goo.gl/forms/4GQKGUbP499aDMeL2

That would be nice if we can get those with bad files to fill it out. If anyone has more questions they think would help zero in on the problem they need to make recommendations before such a form starts being used.

Free free to use it from now on. We can add/remove questions along the way if necessary.
