Note entry - Quits

• Oct 25, 2018 - 12:15

Hi all,
When entering notes with the keyboard, the note entry stops working and I have to close the file and re-open it. This has been a chronic problem and happens within a few minutes of beginning a project and continues to happen continually. Any ideas? I have windows 7 with an old yamaha.

In order to understand and assist, we would need you to attach your score and steps to reproduce the problem. Also say what OS you are one and what version of MuseScore.

As it is, I can make a wild guess that you are using an older version of MuseScore and you have the Piano Keyboard window displayed and are attempting to enter a very high or very low note - there was a bug fixed a while back that could cause a crash in these cases. Or, your score might be correct and any edit operation in those measures might potentially cause a crash.

It's not the musescore program, i think. I hear thunking sounds like the computer detects either a new connection (hardware) or detection of a disconnection of hardware. When that happens, musescore stops detecting the keyboard. I disconnected the scanner because that was a more frequent problem but am not sure what else is causing it. Each time this happens, I have to close musescore and reopen.

Is your Yamaha plug and play (i.e. uses a usb port)?
If it is, and with note entry working, disconnect the Yamaha... do you hear the same sound?

Windows has distinct sounds for different events. You can open Control Panel and test play the various event sounds.

Which one is it?
If your Yamaha is randomly disconnecting, I'd check the connections.

Problem finally solved. I read somewhere that the keyboard has to be plugged directly into the computer.
Note entry no longer quits.
(I've been using a hub for years. Too bad it took this long to figure it out! )
