Ability to RESCALE "view" boxes
a desirable feature would be to be able to RESCALE any of the "view" categories
in particular, the "mixer" panel could thus be reduced according to available screen space and still show all the instrument tracks at one time. This quality could be assigned to the corner drag buttons leaving the top and side buttons for the current resizing mode

While I have no reason to believe you have ever seen a 3.0 alpha, making this happen would fix the issue with 3.0's Format->Style... box being so big I can see the title bar and buttons on the same screen. There is a bug report about the 3.0 box #276404: Format > Style window is too large.
There is a problem with doing this with the mixer. You probably haven't seen a Symphony Orchestra score with 65 channels in the mixer. Shrinking 65 channels (or even the 30 in the default template) to fix in the mixer box would lead to it being unreadable. One of the advantages of the current mixer is that you can shrink it horizontally to hide dials you don't want to accidentally turn by moving your mouse over them and moving your mouse wheel. The mixer is going through a major redesign in hopes of making 3.0, but I'm not sure it will happen according to the goal of releasing the 3.0 beta by the end of the month.
