Can't un-indent first line of music
Hi there,
I have the attached file that I didn't create but am trying to edit. I want to un-indent the first line. In searching online, I've found two possible ways to do this, neither of which seem to apply here. I can't see that there's any frame to delete (and I do have "Show Frames" enabled). And the instrument names are blank, so they aren't taking up space in front of the staff.
I'm using MuseScore 2.3.2, and when I check for updates, it says I'm up to date. I'm on Mac OS Mojave (10.14).
Any ideas?

This is actually a bug that seems to be the same as one recently reported against version 3.0 if I remember correctly. I'll find it and follow up with a link to the bug report so these can be automatically cross-referenced by the website.
To make the indentations go away you need to delete both the long and short instrument names on the staves that are being hidden. MuseScore is making some room for them for some reason. If you don't delete the short instrument names, systems after the first will be indented.

I unhid them using Style->General by removing the check you put in to hide them. I then right clicked the staves and chose staff properties (stave properties in British English).

Ah, I see. (I was just given this file to edit, so I had never hidden the staffs myself in the first place. :-) I guess the trade off is that then the names also disappear from where I do want them to show later, but I can live with that. Thank you!

After I worte my response I had a suspicion you were not the one who hid the staves, and you confirmed that. You can put the short names back in so you can see the results, but when I was examining the the file the second system was indented and I didn't think that's what you wanted.
It seems the bug was reported a long time ago and I recently saw it for some reason. See #270206: First system-indent with Hide Empty Staves. .

Which didn't exist back in 2018 and MuseScore 2.3.2, but only since a few weeks in MuseScore 3.6+

I have tried that and there is no prompt labeled "Enable indentation on first system". I am beginning to get very angry. My score was perfect, and musescore took liberties on its own accord to mess it up. There's now an annoying indent, and the first page consists of just four bars where it use to be 2 bars on each line like the rest of the pages. How did this happen without me doing it myself, and how do I fix the mess that musescore has made of my score? Thank you in advance and sorry about my tone. I spent hours on this thing and musescore destroyed my work.

Thank you! That was very fast that you got back to me. I am only using musescore 3. So, all of the suggestions weren't working. I am updating it now.

I updated it, but it still won't allow me to remove the indentation. I am assuming that since the score was created with Musescore3 that I will not be able to properly edit it with musescore 3.6.2. Is there anyway to change the measure problems? For some reason it has four measures spread out across the entire page.

3.6.2 can edit all scores created with any previous version.

If you have 3.6.2 that option is definitely there. If you are using a language other than English it might look different of course. If you’re still having trouble finding that option after verifying you are on 3.6.2 (see Help : About to remove any doubts), please show a picture of your Format / Style / Dialog as well as the score itself, so we can understand and assist better.

Without seeing your score it’s hard to say if four measures across the page is wrong or not - could be that’s all that fits given your settings, or it could be you have a system break that is telling MuseScore to end the system early. Again, once you attach your score we can start doing better than just guessing.
