To make triplets, click on the note you want to begin. The note must be the duration of the triplet. If you were to click on a half note, then that would make the triplet last for two beats. Now, once you've clicked the note, do ctrl + 3 (cmd + 3 for mac) and you'll have your triplets. Do ctrl + 4 and etc for higher tuplets.
