How a graphic/type designer can help?

• Jul 22, 2014 - 10:40

Hi everybody. I need you again, this time is to find out what is the best direction to follow in the project for my master thesis, that is about digital music writing and musical fonts particularly. The point is I would not like to do only a research about the present situation, but I would like to produce something concrete and useful.
I know somebody in the community collaborate in developing Musescore software or, at least, have ideas on what is needed and where you need some research or development.

So, if you manage to think about a graphic designer with knowledge in type design and in music reading, can you think about a possible element in the projects of your work team, where his knowledge would be useful to develop any element wich is needed someway?
Or, more simply, there is any element missing, to be designed or rationalised? Where you need to work more to do better?

If I manage to draw out an useful project, maybe it will be really useful to the development of Musescore.

Hi Chiara,

As for developers, the best thing to work on as a designer is what you enjoy to work on or to scratch your own itch... So if you used MuseScore and the MuseScore.org website, is there any that could be better and that you can make better?

Off the top of my head, we could use:
- New proposals for a splash screen in MuseScore
- A good jazz font. Even if Gootector is working on one, better two very good than none :)
- Improment on MuseScore UI are always welcome, we do have some guidelines http://musescore.org/en/developers-handbook/design I think we miss some images, especially for retina screen, like the cross to close tabs.
- Some schema/drawing/visualisation to illustrate where MuseScore can be used (Choir, classroom, orchestra, piano, guitar etc...)
