MuseScore 3.0.1.5087 crashes Windows 7

When starting 3.0.1.5087, BSOD (blue screen of death) occurs when MS starts and displays the Open Score dialog. At this point, the program freezes and then BSOD.

Opening a score by double-clicking in Windows Explorer, then letting the OS start MS and load the score appears to be OK. I am able to work with that score with no issues.

This seems to occur when trying to create a NEW score.

My PC is running Win7, but is only 3-4 years old. No other programs are causing issues and I have not seen a BSOD in many years.
