MIDI Connection

I used my x4mini midi keyboard with success but I'm hoping to use my Roland FP-90. I connected the FP-90 to my Mac with a USB (just like I did for the x4mini) but it doesn't seem to connect for use in Musescore. There must be more steps involved to get it to connect. Anyone know?
