Extreme Staff Stretch with Arpeggios

I've had several incidents where I'm inserting arpeggios in my piano parts, and when I go to adjust them to span the entire grand staff, I end up with a random gigantic gap between the left and right hand parts. If I'm doing something wrong or someone else has this problem, please help me. It's so frustrating!!!
