Big Band Drum Writing

Yo, I'm currently trying to arrange Pure Imagination as a jazz ballad/up-tempo swinger, and I'm just trying to figure out how to swap from a brushes kit to a normal jazz kit. Anyone got ideas? I was pointed towards expression text but it doesn't seem to be doing much. Any help is useful, thanks!
