Single beat bar
At the start of a new section which is to be repeated you can have one beat in the first bar and only three in the last. I don't know what this is called but how do I do it?

The beginning is called a pickup measure, I've never heard of a special name for the last measure. See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/measure-operations#duration for instructions.

Note: the following are not general terms; are very old terms.
If music starts with a pickup measure and ends with a complementary measure (compensating) , it's called anacrustic.
if music starts with a pickup measure, but ends with a normal (full) measure, it's called crustic.

The final partial measure (which omits a corresponding number of beats) is called the "complement" to the anacrusis (pickup).
