automatic panning
Is it possible to have a preset panning pull-down menu, where you chose the musical category you want to compose in and the planning for each instrument is automatically set? For example, if I chose an orchestral arrangement, then the piano panning is automatically set for its typical orchestral location, violins are automatically panned to the typical orchestral location, etc. But if I chose a jazz arrangement, then a different panning is set for each instrument.

If you open File/New, don't the second window propose Templates?

Save your score to your Templates folder to use it as a Template. And do update to 3.0.5, it has tons of improvements in this and other areas.

Sorry, but where is the Template folder in musescore 2. By the way, when I upload my musescore 2 pieces to musescore 3, it sounds off somehow.

Your Templates folder is right next to your Scores folder, wherever that was set up (depends on your OS). On Windows, for example, your Scores is My Documents/MuseScore2/Scores, so Templates is My Documents/MuseScore/Templates
Not sure what you mean about something sounding off, but feel free to start a new thread and attach a score you are having trouble with so we can understand and assist better.

Prepare your templates, then use the search box. I haven't tested it but it should work
