Triplet Issues
One should be able to click on a rest/note and switch it to a triplet, then arrow over to the next non-triplet figure and do the same process without issue. I think that would make more sense than the current system where the arrow shifts the highlighted area to the second note in the triplet and makes a triplet out of that instead of the next non-triplet figure. I imagine that the majority of people would prefer this, as the occurrence of back-to-back triplets on duple beats is significantly more common than triplets housed within triplets.

I guess you mean a "Make a triplet button" or something like that.
IMHO, that's not a terrible idea, but it would be limited to a triplet, or whatever is connected to the button. Feel free to submit a suggestion at https://musescore.org/en/node/add/project_issue?pid=1236
Today, what you want is not difficult. Create your triplet using ctrl+3 arrow over as you want the press the duration if needed then ctrl+3 again. If I want to fill a measure with 8th note triplets, I normally turn the measure rest into quarter rests, select the measure and press ctrl+3 to create a measure full of triplets with one key stroke. If I want more measures with triplets, I select the measure full of triplets and press r as many times as I need to fill measures with triplets.

Your last paragraph there totally cured me of my ignorance! I totally didn't know you could do that! Thanks! (Legitimate sincerity, no sarcasm here)

Glad to help. I suspected that would be the most helpful.
You can also start by selecting both beats first, then issue the triplet command. Each beat will be split into it's own triplet.
