MS3.1 Bug: Unable to disable swing in System Text Properties.

• May 28, 2019 - 21:53

In MS 3.1, I am unable to go from Swing to Straight because disabling Swing in System Text Properties is not retained. To duplicate issue, disable swing in the System Text Properties of the "Straight" text. Then check the status of the Swing settings in System Text Properties. It remains checked even though it was just previously unchecked. MS 3.1 is not saving the change. Now delete the "Straight" text element in the first bar. The playback is Straigjht, so it's something to do with text element itself. I didn't have this issue in the 3.1 RC. (I have not enabled Swing in the Score's Style settings.)

System: OS: Windows 10 (10.0), Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore version (64-bit): 3.1.0.7078, revision: e26f7c4

The checkbox controls whether the text has any effect at all. Otherwise, all texts not relevant to swing would turn swing off. So the default is unchecked, meaning, it has no effect. Only when checked does it have effect, but that effect can be to turn it on or off.

None of this has changed in any way since 2.0 was released in 2015.

I’m using version 3.5.2.312126096 and trying to turn off swing has me completely baffled. I’m afraid your previous answer doesn’t help me... 1. does checkbox mean the circle with the black dot? 2. Typing in ‘straight’ in the text box ‘swing’ does nothing. It’s easy to start swing, for sure, but deleting the ‘swing’ text box does nothing, too. Can you help? I’m writing a concert band score. Oh, and 3. Why don’t the parts update when I save the score? Thanks so much, John Hudson

To change from swing to straight,
Enter system text (you can make it say "Straight" or anything else you like)
right click the text
Choose System text properties.
Click the Swing settings tab
Check the Swing Settings box
Click "Off"
Click OK and it's done.

If you add "Straight" from the text palette, all of this is already done for you.
