How do you delete one track of system

• Apr 6, 2025 - 17:36

I imported a midi file, but all the vocal parts are on two staves. That is, the main vocal, for example, is partly in the treble clef and partly in the bass clef, with a system bar connecting the two as a piano score. Merging seems really cumbersome and not straight forward, so I just copied bits from one staff to the other. It was fairly quick to copy the parts that were in the bass staff into the treble clef, but now, how do I erase the bass clef? I tried to follow the directions of another answer that said edit -> Instruments etc., but there isn't a menu item named instrument in the Edit menu.
Thank you in advance.

Open the Instruments (if you have a version before 4.5) or Layout (if you have 4.5 or after) panel. Find the instrument you want to modify. (The "Piano" in my screenshot.) Click the arrow next to the instrument to expand the instrument and show the sub-items it contains. Select the staff you want to delete. (The "Bass clef" in my screenshot.) Once you have selected it, you will see a trashcan icon near top right of the panel (right of Add). Click that to delete the selected item.

Be aware that you will also see the trashcan if you have selected the entire instrument as well. Make sure you don't delete both staves! (IOW, save your work before you make this change!)
