rests
When I enter notes in the Bass Clef of the Grand Staff, the existing rests do not go away, but remain in addition to the notes entered.

Because these are rests of voice one, see: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/voices#delete-hide-rests.
Better enter your notes in the bass clef staff with voice one instead of voice four. You can easily exchange the already entered voice, see: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/voices#exchange-voices
