pre-staff notation
I'd like to be able to print notes and music symbols in pre-staff notation, and also in my own worksheets for my students. Is there a way to use MuseScore to print the notes without the staff?

When you right click a staff, you can select Staff/Part properties. There are dozens of options there that include don't show staff lines, show barlines, show time signatures and so forth. If you don't see what you need, you can click the advances properties button near the middle on the right to get a few more options and to control note head schemes among other things.
