Custom staff... how?
I need to create a custom setup for the lute music I am writing. I need a grand staff on which I can turn tablature on and off at my leisure, and with my choice of custom tunings (also: I am writing for a 16 course instrument). How do I set this up, and how do I save it as a template? This is very easy to do in Guitar Pro, but I'm having trouble figuring it out for Musescore.

Ok... I'm partway there. But I have a weird issue. I created a linked staff, and specified lute tablature as staff type. So why is it displaying as a treble cleff staff?

Linked means that any change to the content in one will affect the other. Which clef shows the superior one?
Cadiz may give you a few suggestions, if he will read this post.

it would be a great feature for lute players to have a grand staff linked to a 1 staff tablature but it is not possible in musescore. The only way is to write in a linked staff with tablature and treble staff (better change this to treble staff 1 oktave lower) and add an extra grand staff not linked and copy the music there.
Is it possible to link a grand staff with tablature in guitar pro? if this really is possible what happens if you open the gp file with musescore?

"I need a grand staff on which I can turn tablature on and off at my leisure"
There is at least a feature request for that (see: #288906: Need way to generate parts by staff, not by instrument), and the workaround, in first comment.
I'm rewriting it step by step:
1) Create a new score/instrument, standard staff -> Ok
2) Generate part
3) in "I" (Instruments dialog), and in main score: change the staff type, ie to Tablature -> Ok
4) Generate part
5) In "I" always: add a linked staff
6) Change the top staff type to standard -> OK
It is important to keep in mind that it is only a trick.
It's not intended for, so the warranty is not total. I think about that: #275667: String data/tuning not synced between score and parts and its root cause (#62416: Changes to staff transposition (and other properties) not reflected in linked parts), but I think the game may be worth it if you are aware of that, and by waiting for a specific function (maybe one day?!)
Here, a template for a 7-course lute with this display: template lute.mscz
You're talking about a 16-course instrument. What is it exactly?
The maximum with MuseScore is 14-course (or simple strings), namely theorbo.
