Whole note bug
This one has been around forever.
- Start with an empty piece in 4/4
- Click on the first rest, (optionally hit "7" for whole note)
- Hit "A" or whatever note:
You get a quarter note.

That's inconsistent. I don't have to press N if I do "6" for half note.
After creating a new score (and before entering any notes) there are full measure rests in the score, regardless of the time signature, see: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/measure-rests#full-measure-rest.

Ah. Not a bug: a feature.
:-)
To be clear:
You are always supposed to enter note input mode before entering notes. And you need to select the intended duration after entering note input mode. Selecting a duration while not in note input mode does something else entirely - it changes the duration of whatever you have currently selected.
So: in normal mode, durations change the selected note. In note input mode, durations tell MsueScore what to do next.
