creating the various staffs for soprano, alto, baritone and bass + piano

When I create the staffs + piano for the various vocal voices, I hear each (sopranos, alto, etc) as a choral sound as I am putting in the notes and playing them back. I do not want the choral sound, but either a clear single voice or a piano type note. Is it possible to get this?
