single note dynamic swells?

I wanted to put some dynamic swells at a violin tremolo part in my piece but I can't seem to figure out how to go about doing it. I tried using dynamic markings and hairpins but it seems that only the last crescendo was the only one that worked. Anybody else know how to go about doing this?
