Export to Midi file

• Nov 26, 2019 - 23:06

Hello,
I needed to put some ticks into the 1st measure of a midi file, which was existant but empty.
So I loaded the midi into Muse Score and put 4 ticks into the 1st measure.
I played a few measures to make sure and then exported everything into a new midi file, didn't change anything else.
Result:
The new midi was about 30 percent smaller in size and with the same midi player played with considerably less volume.
I guess, the functions "Open from .mid" or the "Export to Midi" do unexpected changes to the data, don't work transparent.
What was my mistake rsp. can I do to keep the same volume?
Regards

MuseScore is not a MIDI editor but a notation program, so indeed there is all sorts of stuff going on when you import, and more still when you export. Still, in general, the velocity info shoudln't have been messed with, but it's possible you also had volume messages going that were lost. Hard to say without the actual MIDI file. But in any case, if you want to get the same MIDI data you started with, use a MIDI editor, not a notation program.
