Types of time signatures

I have interest in using other kinds of time signatures in Musescore:

  1. Additive: These time signatures show how measures are subdivided into beat groups, e.g. 3+2/8 for 5/8, and 4+3/8 for 7/8.
  2. Alternating: These indicate swapping between two or more meters in a fixed pattern, e.g. 6/8+3/4.
  3. Interchangeable: Similar to alternating time signatures but without a fixed pattern (so that the meters in the set can apply to any bar in the piece).
  4. Aggregate: These show two or more meters within the same bar, e.g. 2/4+3/8+5/4.

Although I can use the master palette to create these signatures, it would be easier if Musescore has options to choose from the above kinds of meters. And so do you think it is a good idea to add such options? If so, I certainly recommend that it shall be added to Musescore soon.

You can already do 1, 2, and 3.

1) For an additive time signature, use the Create time signature dialog. In the Time signatures palette, click the More button. On the new dialog, click the button to Create time signature and, on this final dialog, create your time signature. To create the example in my screenshot, I set it as 8/8 and then put "3+3+2" / "8" in the display. Then I adjusted the beaming so that it would break the beams after the third, and sixth of the eight eighth notes.

2) and 3) Just add the time signatures in each measure.

For your fourth possibility, it may be possible in a similar fashion to the additive signature, but I'm not sure. I suspect you might have to fake it in some fashion: Perhaps make the measures be the full length of the aggregate time (in your example, 2/4+3/8+5/4 would be 17/8) and then use an image with the "actual" time signature made invisible. Not sure about this.
