Moving notes from one stave to another

What is the best way to move notes from one stave to another?
I have the attached snippet and want to move the lower notes from the Bb clarinet part to the Bass clarinet part. i.e. notes 1, 3, 5 and 7 in each bar.
To get something like this:
If I click on the note head and use CTRL+X, CTRL+V to cut and paste, only the pitches get copied and pasted. If I shift click on a note and cut and paste, the pitch and duration are copied but the pasted note remains selected. That is nice if I want to do something with that just pasted note, but not if I want to select another different note. To select the next note I want to move I have to deselect the one I have just pasted first. This is just a snippet of a long section that I want to modify.
Is there an easier way?

If it were me, I'd copy the whole range, then go in and delete every other note (delete-right-right-delete-right-right-delete-right-right...). Maybe marginally faster to Ctrl+click the notes to delete and delete them at once?
Select all and paste them all to the bottom stave.
Delete unnecessary ones from both staves.
I think this is the safest and easiest way.
Split staff...

I hadn't thought of split staff. It would work ... if only it could be applied to a range rather than the whole staff.
