Musescore playback not working for me
I've just updated to musescore 3 and now the playback feature is not working. Any ideas how to solve this? It was working fine on musescore 2, and the audio on my computer is working fine in general.
Thanks!

I can't even open the playback window, and it also doesn't give me any sounds when i input notes.

Try clicking the 'MIDI Input' button twice. It's located at the top toolbar next to the playback buttons

Sorted it out! it was my sound card that was confused between different applications. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the follow-up and glad you got it sorted.
On this page (which was referenced earlier):
https://musescore.org/en/node/96811
there are seven steps to try (with two additional notes at the bottom of the page).
I realize you mentioned that your synthesizer was greyed out (and so inaccessible), but do any of the other steps (or those additional notes) relate to your solution? ...especially step 6 and/or the note about "interference with other programs" and "soundcard configuration".
Please let us know if there is any more info, which can be added to that 'How to' -- like the exact steps you performed to 'unconfuse' your sound card (also on what OS).
Adding more relevant info. to that 'How to' page may help others in the future.

Hi, I think it was the fact that I had an external soundcard (Focusrite) for working with Steinberg, and that was plugged in whilst installing musescore. To be honest, it now only works with the Focusrite plugged in, so it's still not perfect. But I think that it's a problem with Microsoft Windows surface soundcard. I fixed it through the troubleshoot section, and made the default soundcard focusrite. The windows surface can't seem to intuitively switch between different application.
