Preset page number positions
I know it's possible to change the x and y positions of the header and footer $p. However, when you change the x or y for the first or second page, it changes it for all pages. This can result in mushy graphics where the page number collides with something on or over the top system. So I propose a preset button where you can say, "Page numbers normal mode", which allows you to manually change x and y (the way is works now), and "Page number auto over system", which automatically positions the number over the left side of the top of the score, and not close to the corners of the page. So on odd pages, the page number would be somewhere over the bracket of the top staff of the score, and on even pages the number would be over the end of the top staff. And have a button that says "Invert positioning" or "Invert pages", which puts the number over the top bracket on even pages, and over the end of the top staff on odd pages.
Page 2 has a page number above the top bracket
Page 3 has a page number over the end of the top staff
While we're at it, rehearsal numbers or letters could also use a little auto-positioning. In these examples, the rehearsal is right after the barline. MuseScore positions rehearsals right over the barline, and they suffer from the same errors on subsequent pages if one rehearsal's x and y is adjusted. An option to position after the barline on all pages (or in some other preset, custom arrangement) would be great indeed.

I have no clue about the page number request, but as for rehearsal marks:
Select a rehearsal mask, in the inspector in the "text" section, set the alignment from the default of center to be left aligned, then press the "set as style" button. Consider also giving an X offset of 0.50sp to compensate for the margin setting and set that as style as well.

Yes, that looks nice! Thanks.
For historical reasons, the header is placed within the printable area of the page rather than the margin, but probably you simply want to move it into the margin, by setting the Y offset negative in its style setting Then it's guaranteed not to collide with the score, which is always kept within the printable area.
Looks like you've customized your rehearsal mark position, by default it should be centered over the barline.

That is not my score. These are images of a pdf of the printed score of Busoni's Berceuse Élégiaque. It can be found here:

So, you're saying you want the rehearsal numbers offset like that? The indeed, just set on to left-aligned then hit set as style, as jeetee suggested.

Yes, but it's just for this particular score as far as I can tell. Different scores have a bunch of different ways they can present rehearsal numbers. So I did follow Jeetee's suggestion and it works great. To get back to my original question, a button that does all that automatically would be nice (left-align, set as style, 0.50 offset)

I can’t imagine how it would work to have a button for that particular unique combination of settings. After all, someone else wants right aligned, offset 0.3 - do we also add a button for that? Someone else wants them a little higher and a slightly larger font - do we have a dedicated button for that too? Someone else wants to change the box to a circle and make it italic - yet another button? You can’t have dedicated buttons for each possible combination of settings someone might want, you have 10,000 buttons on the interface. Ins the ad we strive to provide the options that allow 10,000 people to each get the unique results they want, using only a handful of buttons.
On the other hand, if you are just saying you want it to be easier to apply those settings to other scores, that’s simple enough - just use Format / Save Style and load the result into other scores. Or save your score as a template.
