Changing instruments part way through song

I can't seem to work out how to change instruments part way through a song in MuseScore 3. I could do this quite easily in the previous version. Eg. a percussionist plays gong at the beginning of the piece, but needs to switch to shaker. The Instrument Change function seems to change the instrument for the whole part. Am I missing something? Please help.

Change instrument in staff/part-properties indeed changes the full staff. Use a change instrument text from the palette and use its properties instead.

This shouldn't have changed compared to MuseScore 2 though.

Thanks jeetee, yes and looks like I was doing it right afterall, I was just assuming that the instrument had changed for the whole part. Silly me. Working good now! Thanks for your time.
