Playing instruments in score, WITHOUT inputting notes.

I used to have a good LoopBe1/VMPK setup on musescore 2 that worked fine. I would select any measure, then click the vmpk application, and I could play whatever instrument I selected without inputting notes, this would allow me to play and improvise music, which would then allow me to manually input notes based on what I decided I liked.

Since updating to Musescore 3 on a new pc, I am unable to replicate that easy workflow.

How am I able to get an internal midi to help me play the instrument I select, without inputting any notes?

I just want to use my laptop keyboard to control and play pitches from musescore. What is the best way to do that on the latest version?
