in note entry mode you cannot add a sharp , natural or flat with out coming out of Note entry .

I believe this is by design, but there are two workarounds:

  1. If you press the ♯, ♭, or ♮ button before entering a note, the sign will be applied to the note when you do enter it.

  2. You can press the ↑ and ↓ keys right after entering a note to move it up and down chromatically without having to exit note-input mode.
