"Arco" not changing pizzicato back to arco
I'm editing an old score originally done in Musescore 2. In the old version, each pizzicato note was marked with a little symbol that made it pizzicato. I am trying to use the pizz/arco/tremolo text feature in Musescore 3 in this new revision. This successfully changed the string sound to pizzicato, but it does not convert back to arco. When I look at the channel & mixer settings, it seems like all is in order so it should work, but it doesn't.
I'm fairly certain this is some vestige from Musescore 2, as I don't have any problems with this feature on new scores I am working on. Can you tell me how to fix this?

Go to Staff/Part Properties and change the instrument from Violin to Violin (!). The reason, in order to better support things like this, the name of the "normal" channel changed, to "arco", and this updates what needs to be updated. Same for the other strings.

Yep! I did have to change it from "Violin" to "Violins" back to "Violin" (and for the other strings) because going from "Violin" straight to "Violin" didn't seem to take. Anyway, it's working now.

I tried this with a downloaded score, https://musescore.com/user/1954901/scores/6374590. It's violoncello instead of violin. I tried changing instrument from violoncello to violoncello. The dialog box shows "arco" but playback continues with pizzicato.

Works fine for me. Maybe try closing and reopening the score, that might possibly be needed to reset things sometimes. If still no luck, post your edited version here so we can see what is g.

Go to Violoncelle part, measure 14, playback continues pizz. past the "arco" mark.
An aside, I often find (including with this file) that I can't hear the playback at all until I open the mixer and change the instrument, for example from "Cello" to "Cello Expr."

It's correct that by default, if you've added a cello instrument, it should use the "expr" sound. Using the wrong sound will have that exact effect - no sound until clicking, or else, no dynamics. Generally speaking, if the default sound for an instrument uses an "expr" sound, and you have some special need to replace its sound in the mxier, you need to replace it with another expr sound.
Anyhow, this seems to be the original version of the score - well, the one you attached previously. You still need to replace the instrument and the arco text.
