Yamaha YDP-223 is not inputting notes

I connected my 10-year-old Yamaha YDP-223 digital piano to my 2017 MacBook which uses OS High Sierra 10.13.6. The MIDI cable I'm using is probably 12 years old - a MIDI Sport Uno with USB input, made by MAudio. The cable shows up in the MuseScore I/O menu but the notes do not show up on the score when I press a key of my keyboard. Is the cable too old? if so, what cable do I need? Thanks!

What happens if you first enter a note with one of the other methods?
For example press N A first on your computer keyboard, which will thus enter note entry mode and enter an A. Now without doing anything else, what happens if you press a C on your keyboard?
