OS: Windows 10 (10.0), Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore version (64-bit): 3.4.2.9788, revision: 148e43f
Splitting bar before 1/16 rest (picture bar_original.png) leads to wrong rest (picture bar_after_splitting.png)
expected result would be picture correct_bar.png
Workaround:
1. Open bar properties
2. Change bar duration to 6/8
3. Apply
4. resewt bar duration to 5/8

Looks correct to me, that isn't a half nor whole rest, but a full measure rest
select that full measure rests, or the entire measure and hit "Del", to get the hald +8th rest
As far as I can tell this is by design
