Part key change
I am writing a fairly simple score involving a melody line for alto sax with piano accompaniment.
The sax line should be written in C major and the piano lines in Eb major. I have written the three lines in Eb major, and when I try to change the sax line to C major using the Key Signatures feature in Palettes, the two piano lines change to C major also. Any ideas for a solution?

You would probably do well to read here https://musescore.org/en/handbook/concert-pitch
And then note that key signatures are always specified relative to concert pitch - if you apply a C maj key signature to a transposing instrument while concert pitch is not enabled (button on the tool bar not pressed), the key signature will be shown in the correct transposition - i.e. A maj for an alto sax. if Concert pitch is enabled (button on the toolbar pressed) it will be shown un-transposed as C maj.
Then if you are still having problems, come back here and attach the score you are having difficulty with.

Many thanks.
I have read the handbook section and your explanation, but still cannot get the melody line for the alto sax to show in C major above the piano lines in Eb major, with the Concert pitch button definitely off. I attach the first page of the score in the hope that you will recognise where I am going wrong.

The problem is that the alto sax staff is actually set up with the instrument as voice - which is generally non-transposing. You can change it to alto sax (or whatever else you might like) by right clicking on the staff and visiting "change instrument". I did this (couple of clicks) and the result is attached here.
When you create a new score you should ensure that it has the instruments that you want to use. See this bit of the handbook as a start: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/create-new-score#create-new-score

Thanks Steve - that has solved my problem. As you might have guessed, I hadn't needed to arrange for a transposing instrument before!
You have taught me a new (to me) function in Musescore.
Best regards
Mac

We clarinet/sax players transpose in our sleep ;-)
