Changing Key Signature on a single staff.

• Jun 30, 2020 - 13:43

I come up against the same problem over and over again. When I try to change instrument mid staff everything works correctly up until I try to change the key signature for the new instrument. No matter what I do, holding down the Ctrl key while dragging the new key signature, as instructed, results in a key signature being shown in ALL staves at that point. Admittedly the key signatures, including the new one, are all correct but can this operation be done without repeated key signatures on every other staff?
I am not knowledgeable enough to recognise a bug, so is this normal behaviour or am I missing something in the procedure?

Be sure to have a current version of MuseScore (eg, 3.4.2, or the 3.5 Beta). I recall bugs in some older versions that might possibly explain this. but it works fine for me. BTW< try also simply selecting a measure than using Ctrl+click in the palette, much simpler and less error-prone than dragging. If you continue to have difficulty, then as mentioned, we would need you to attach the score and give precise steps to reproduce the problem.

Thanks for your comment Marc. However, I discovered when I went back to try your suggestions, that what I had been doing suddenly started working correctly! So I didn't need to experiment further. It would appear that the usual cure for PC problems - switching off and on again - was the route I should have taken in the first place. I was swayed by my recollection of the same problem on an earlier version, just as you hinted.
So the problem has gone away. Sorry for introducing the subject unnecessarily, but thanks for your assistance just the same.
