Musescore 3 won't playback sound?

I opened up Musescore 3 today and i found that it wouldnt let me playback what i had written. I was using v3.3.2 and updated to v3.4.2 and it still wouldn't playback sounds. the buttons were all grayed out as if i hadn't selected anything. I'm on Windows 10 version 1909

Thanks! My sound drivers were outdated but it didn't cross my mind because it wouldn't let me playback so i assumed it was a musescore problem
