Barline
I’m writing a part for marimba but I want the first barline connecting the staves to not be there. How is this done?

In the menu Format->Style on the System page there is an option that says Barline at start of multiple staves. Uncheck that.
May I ask why you want to remove that? Normally it is crucial information, the only way musicians reading the score can correctly identify which staves belong to the same system and thus are to be read simultaneously. Without that barline, it would like the Marimba 2 part followed rather than accompanied the Marimba 1 part. There could of course be special extenuating circumstances where for whatever reason this makes sense, but I wanted to make sure you knew this barline isn't normally optional.
BTW, to get a screenshot, much easier / better to use the image capture tool built in to MuseScore - see the camera icon on the toolbar :-)
