Loop Playback: improve selection of start and end points.
Currently in order to change the loop start and end points, you have to make a new selection in the score. This could be improved by adding other methods of start/end point selection.
With the "Toggle Loop playback" button enabled and playback off:
- Use left-click to establish the loop start, and right-click to establish the loop end.
- Display "Start" and "End" text boxes next to the "Toggle Loop playback" button, for numerical entry.
- Allow user to drag the loop start and end flags.
This facility should also be available in the Piano Roll Editor.

You don't have to make a new range selection at all. If you have the play panel open, it has separate buttons to set start/end point for a selected position.
You can also set shortcuts for setting the loop in/out position in preferences.
I don't quite like suggestion (1) as that would break normal mouse interactions when loop mode is enabled. Not a big fan of (2) either, I'd then rather see those existing actions from the play panel be made available as possible customization action for the normal play toolbar.
Suggestion (3) seems a good addition.

Why not fan of proposal 2?
Possibility to enter a position by keyboard in addition to the existing possibilities seems good, no?

Because of the additional space/parsing involved.
If you know that position, you can already Ctrl-F go to it and then use the existing methods for setting the start/endpoint.
For me there is little added benefit compared to added UI complexity

Hum it is true that designers of the playpanel are not very smart with space optimization. From V2 to V3 we went from a reasonable small panel to a half screen panel for the same functionality
If you have the play panel open, it has separate buttons to set start/end point for a selected position.
It would be useful to have that facility on the play toolbar as well.
