repeat not working

ages ago I wrote a piece for Big Band which upon opening recently (in the latest version of MS) the repeat for solos no longer worked. As I intended to sketch out some new sections for the piece etc I created a new score for the purpose. I then took for eg the repeat section, deleted the repeat bar lines, added in some new bars and chords and reinstated the repeat bars. They still did not work. The repeat section in my sketch is bars 36-43.
I have looked in the Inspector etc and found nothing. Any help in pointing out my obvious mistake will be most warmly received.
