I need clarification on how sound fonts work
Okay, so I downloaded, installed, loaded, and saved a pan flute soundfont, and it sounds way better than the musescore default pan flute, which is cool.
Problem is, none of the other instruments make any sound. Does that mean new pan flute sound and musescore default instruments cant coexist? If they can, is there a tutorial or something that can show me how to merge them or something?

I don't know whether you've already seen https://musescore.org/en/handbook/soundfonts-and-sfz-files ?
It's usually the easiest to keep the MuseScore default soundfont at the top of the synth list (or any other GM compatible soundfont) so all instruments by default will use their sound from this soundfont.
Then in the mixer, scroll down enough to get to the entries of the other soundfonts for those few instruments you wish to override.
