Repeating Problem

• Apr 20, 2025 - 20:33

(On the measure 5 to 10 where the repeats are) How can I make it so that when the first time it plays, it plays that first measure and skips the one after it, but when it repeats, it doesn't play the first measure there, and it does play the measure after it. I already tried using a prima volta on the first measure and a seconda volta on the second measure, but I do that, it skips the measure with the prima volta. And I tried also doing that same thing but with the start repeats after that first measure.

It's only 6 bars, just write it out in full without repeats rather than trying to use voltas for a purpose for which they were never intended.

If I understand you correctly, you want the beginning of the repeat (m. 5 and 6?) to be different. Voltas are for different endings, not beginnings or middles. As far as I'm aware, there is no standard notation for what you're describing. As @rothers suggested, simply "unroll" the repeat with the different beginnings in their appropriate places:

mm :: 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 6, 7, 8, 9 10 (I think that's what you want???)
