Condensing measures
I'm translating an arpeggio meditation from the chord diagrams in which I originally composed it into Notation and Tablature (Ukulele) as a way of learning how to read music.
The first 'sequence' of chords (which are all played, arpeggio, 4 times each) is 44 measures and there is quite a lot more to come.
In order to use less space and ultimately, less paper, is there a convention for showing that each chord is played four times but only showing the notes/TAB for the first time it is played?
I would appreciate a simple answer as I am new to this whole malarkey....

Thank you for your response. I don't understand the advice given in the handbook but will work on it and hopefully achieve the desired result.

MuseScore 3 (and older) only have a single measure repest signe. MuseScore 4, due towards the end of this year, will have a 2 and a 4 measure repeat.

Yes, select as many consecutive measures (3 measures in your case) you want to repeat and click the repeat-measure sign from the palette (see attached screenshot).
If there is a System-breaks at the end of the lines (which looks like an Enter sign), delete it.

Hi again. Just tried this out - it's 'drag-and-drop' on the Mac. However, I am still using the same amount of space for the 4 measures (i.e. the whole page width) so need to find another way to show what I should be playing without showing the full 4 measures. I've tried to attach a file but not sure if it's worked.....

The number of measures in each row remains same unless you delete System Breaks.

System Break:
If you cannot see the System-breaks, check "Show Unprintable" and "Show Invisible" in your View menu.
You have also set the staff space in the Page Settings menu to a higher value; You can also set this to a lower value if you want to save paper. // while the original was 1.750, your setting is 2.150.
The raw format I mentioned should be like the attached one. You can add breaks as needed. // for example: every 8 measures.

Another probably very stupid question here but, having played around for a couple of hours I cannot get the measures on page 2 the same format as on page one - they are wider, further apart and fewer on the page. Have attached a pdf file - only way I could think how to do it. I have even copied and pasted page 1 in an attempt to repeat the spacing etc...... Thanks for your anticipated advice.

I would recommend against turning of vertical justification here. The reason the systems are spread wider is that are fewer of them . That's your real problem here - you have 6 on the first page, only 4 on the second. So one way or another, there is more empty space on the second page. Whether you let MuseScore put it between systems or you force it to be at the bottom of the page, it won't look nearly as good as if you simply add a page break after the fifth system to make it 5 & 5. It will still be a little uneven because of the title on the first page, but it will look more professional if you let MuseScore do the vertical justification. Unequal spacing is the norm in such situations, it's the big gaps on the bottom that professional editors tr to avoid,and that's why vertical justification exists.

Thank you, Marc. I came to the same conclusion regarding the number of systems per page - there is quite a bit more to come of the stuff I am putting into Notation, so things should work out.
I really appreciate your taking the time to explain so thoroughly. I am not a musician but am trying to learn my instrument (Concert Ukulele) plus learning how to read music as I am not a 'strum and sing' player. I want to play 'proper' music and am working through things like Pachelbels Canon and Daniel Ward's Arpeggio Meditations (which inspired my own effort currently being transcribed using Musescore.) An excellent programme - I just need to understand it's capabilities......
